Transforming an Ohio home into a treehouse retreat with Infinity from Marvin fiberglass replacement windows
Melissa and Cody fell in love with a 35-year-old home, enchanted by the treehouse feel of the forest-like backyard. However, during their initial home inspection, they discovered rotting wood windows. After moving in, they noticed fogging between the glass panes and found several casement windows were inoperable.
Despite these issues, the family delayed replacing the windows for almost two years due to the anticipated high cost and lack of knowledge about the process. In the meantime, they painted the exterior of the wood windows to extend their life, but the paint soon cracked, and the windows continued to rot.
“We had patched a few things on the outside and then had the windows painted thinking that would buy us some time,” said Melissa. “Within a couple of weeks you could tell, the cracks just reappeared, and the crumbling wood was still there.”
Realizing it was time to address the problem, Melissa and Cody began exploring local window replacement companies. Cody wanted durable fiberglass windows, while Melissa was concerned about preserving the view and aesthetics. They ultimately chose Infinity from Marvin fiberglass windows for their durability and thin frames, which enhanced their view.
“We actually ended up with bigger windows,” said Melissa. “Before, our windows were very chopped up, we lost a lot of viewing in the middle. Now we have a much bigger view.”
The couple appreciated the variety of color and grid options that Infinity from Marvin offered, allowing them to experiment with different designs. They also valued the ability to change window styles, opting for double hung windows in their kids’ rooms for easier operation than the casement windows in place originally.
“We had a lot of windows we wanted to completely change,” said Melissa. “We didn’t want to go from casement to casement on a lot of our windows. We wanted to go from casement to double hung or casement to picture window.”
Safety was a concern, especially with floor-to-ceiling casement windows on the second story on the back of the home overlooking a concrete patio. The Infinity from Marvin – Ohio team helped redesign these windows, replacing the bottom casements with inoperable picture windows keeping safety top of mind, and adding awning windows mulled to the top for ventilation.
“Safety is a big thing for us with the kids and the puppy running around,” said Cody. “Now we can open the windows, have the ventilation, and not worry about anyone getting hurt.”
The family noticed immediate benefits after replacing their windows, including lower utility bills and improved temperature control throughout the home. Their sunroom, once a sauna in summer and an icebox in winter, now maintains a comfortable temperature year-round. Cody’s office, previously five degrees warmer than the rest of the house due to the drafty window, now stays at a consistent 72 degrees.
“Our house isn’t drafty anymore, and we have lower utility bills,” said Melissa. “We’ve been able to keep the sunroom door that goes to our house open because our air conditioner isn’t fighting against the leaky, drafty windows anymore.”
The family refers to their sunroom as the “treehouse” because of the expansive, unobstructed views. Melissa loves opening the new windows and patio doors in their living spaces to hear the rain and birds, something they couldn’t do before.
“I love when it rains. It sounds weird, but I love when it rains because we can open the awning windows in the family room and you can hear the rain, you can hear the birds... it’s just great,” said Melissa. “You couldn’t open those windows at all before.”
Cody appreciates the durability and reliability of the new windows, eliminating concerns about future maintenance. The couple felt overwhelmed initially when they began the window replacement process but found relief working with the Infinity from Marvin – Ohio team, who provided quality products without high-pressure sales tactics.
"You don’t have to worry about reliability or any other issues with the windows and doors. It’s been a relief because we don’t have to worry about upcoming maintenance or having to fix things that aren’t working,” said Cody. “It’s just like a brand new house.”
Now, Melissa and Cody are proud of their home and enjoy inviting friends and family over to experience the improved space. They highly recommend Infinity from Marvin for anyone considering replacing their windows.
“I feel like now it’s complete. I just feel like we are proud of the house and the space,” said Cody. “Melissa has done a lot of great work inside the home, and now with the windows, we can really feel comfortable and confident to invite friends and family over to enjoy the home inside and out.”
